Since the ascent of Trump many people have become frightened. Some have gone into hiding. Some are closing ranks and dealing with this in isolation. Other folks are organizing collective resistance. A large group of representatives from a variety of organizations such as the Peace & Justice Center, Petaluma Vigil for Palestine, Comte VIDA, North Bay Organizing Project, Indivisible Sonoma, Democratic Socialists of America and more are meeting and planning multiple days of resistance to the thundering fascism that threatens to run over all of us.
The Community United to Resist Fascism is supporting 5 days of action beginning on May 1. International Workers Day 2025 is a day to honor all workers. In Sonoma County we are proud of our tradition of honoring the immigrant community and standing up for dignity and safety for all. This year the May 1 Coalition is planning a May Day March on Thursday, May 1, to begin at 3 p.m. at the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office. Go all out for immigrants and workers! May 2 planning is still underway. Stay tuned. May 3 – Resist Fascism marches and rallies will take place, at times and locations yet to be decided. May 4 –Solidarity with Palestine action at 2 pm, Courthouse Square, Santa Rosa. May 5 – Celebrating the Anti-colonial Victory of Mexico. Other events are planned by the Latino Democratic Club and others. Many acts of resistance are coming. Details are forthcoming as we draw nearer. Let’s be a presence for resistance wherever we spend the day. You can know people by their values. It’s easy to say what you’re against. It’s much harder to provide a vision of what you want to be. Here are the stated values of the Resistance Coalition. To build a future just community: We support a governmental system separate from the influence of major corporations, businesses and industries – especially from tainting elections through donating large sums of money to political candidate campaigns. We uphold the US constitution’s separation of powers into threeseparate branches: The executive, legislative and judicial. This includes a system of checks and balances to protect against the abuse of power. We support equal voting rights and bodily autonomy in order to protect fundamental agencies, social programs and special programs designed to produce equity, and environmental protection, and expand the social safety net, which includes: Medicaid, disability insurance, universal health care, Social Security and Workers’ Compensation. We value diversity, pluralism, and multiculturalism, and defend all marginalized communities. We uphold the US Constitution’s Bill of rights and freedoms, which upholds and protects separation of church and state, racial, gender and physical ability equality and marriage equality. We support mass media that is decentralized in ownership, reports facts objectively, represents multiple points o0f view, and is not controlled by any single interest. We support the equal opportunity to access education and resources to live with dignity and safety. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming acts of resistance and join the ones that make sense to you. Radio Resistance will focus on these actions on April 20 at 6 on KBBF. Together we can stop this racist terrorism. Together we can build a better, more just and inclusive world. |
