CALLING IN
A powerful and loving way to hold people with harmful ideas accountable Thurs. Sept. 26, 2024 – 6:30-8pm, FREE & IN PERSON Glaser Center, 547 Mendocino Ave, Santa Rosa, CA 95401 In a world of growing polarization, anti-wokeness, and cancel culture, what does “calling in” mean? How do we show up, speak up, and call each other in during challenging conversations and interactions? According to Loretta J. Ross, African American academic, feminist, and activist, we live in a call-out culture. You’re probably familiar with it: the public shaming and blaming, on social media and in real life, of people who may have done wrong and are being held accountable. For Ross, calling in means “having difficult dialogues with others while respecting their human rights and differences.” Ross has a toolkit for starting productive conversations instead of fights—or what she describes a “call-in culture”—and shares strategies that help challenge wrongdoing while still creating space for growth, forgiveness, and maybe even an unexpected friend. Come learn more! This dialogue is led by Dinah and Wendy with Racial Justice Allies. In preparation for the workshop, please consider watching Loretta J. Ross’s TedTalk (14 min.): Invite your friends to join our dialogue. Open to everyone! Wheelchair accessible. Please RSVP via email at [email protected]. |
