Carceral Apartheid: How Lies and White Supremacists Run Our Prisons with Dr. Brittany Friedman

Thurs. April 17, 2025
6:30-8PM, FREE online

Dr. Brittany Friedman is a sociologist and associate professor at the University of Southern California. She is the author of an upcoming Winter ’25 book titled CARCERAL APARTHEID: HOW LIES AND WHITE SUPREMACISTS RUN OUR PRISONS. This workshop will explore carceral apartheid, a term Friedman coined to describe how the state deploys carceral apparatuses—such as police, military, courts, and prisons—to disempower racialized groups. Friedman and attendees will discuss how carceral apartheid operates in America, both within the prison system and as a larger governing strategy used to decimate political targets and foster deceit, disinformation, and division in society.
