Sonoma County Climate Activist Network Meeting!
Announcement and Call for Campaign Proposals
Monday, January 6, 7:00-9:00pm
For Your Consideration:
*Please submit notice if you would like to introduce a Campaign Proposal at the meeting*.
Please also consider preparing a brief Group Report, although you do not need to circulate that report because it will not be a formal agenda item.
What is a campaign proposal? How is it different from a group report?

Campaign Proposal
A campaign proposal is a request for SoCoCAN! and individual members to focus on for the next 2-3 months (i.e. until the next meeting). Most proposed campaigns get support, although a single campaign gets the focus of the network until the next meeting. When we choose one campaign for the entire network to work on for several months we create big wins in our activism. This strategy was agreed on at one of our founding meetings and has created some significant successes for SoCoCAN!

Group Reports
A group report tells the network what you are working on. It is also an opportunity to ask for help and support. If you are seeking a SoCoCAN! endorsement that can be quick and included during your group report. Group reports also provide an opportunity to make announcements and ask for help with publicity regarding your efforts. Individuals, as well as formal organizations, are encouraged to share what they are working on as a group report.

Criteria for choosing a local campaign includes:
  • Effectiveness and impact of the campaign
  • Relevance to climate change activism in Sonoma County
  • Congruence with our Common Ground Statement
  • Ambitious campaigns that will benefit from the wide support available when all network groups join together
  • Opportunities for the advancement and empowerment of our network, internally and publicly
Examples of the scope of Group Reports and Campaign Proposals:
  • Campaign proposal: "We are launching a major campaign that is too big for our group to succeed at by ourselves. We would like all network groups to support us in all aspects of this campaign for it to succeed."
  • Group report: "We are having a protest on June 12. Please come and forward our announcement/flyer widely to help promote it. Does SoCoCAN! endorse it? Does anyone have an extra megaphone?"
Please submit campaign proposals to the listserv in advance of the meeting, so that members can review ahead of time. Please do so by responding directly to the meeting facilitator's call for proposals (i.e. this email) at least several days in advance of the meeting so that your proposal is formally included on the agenda.
