Getting Centered

As fascism rears its ugly head, your Peace & Justice Center is buzzing with activity. People are organizing resistance. The collaborative style of the Democratic Socialists of America and Indivisible offers us a model for building strong, diverse movements. It’s what we need, and one place to do this is at your Peace & Justice Center.
Our staff is growing. If you come in on Thursdays you’ll be greeted by our newest volunteer, Ron Liskey. We have five volunteer staffers for the five afternoons when we are open and we are open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Currently our staff includes Ailsa on Mondays, Rebel on Tuesdays, Rodger on Wednesday, Ron on Thursdays and Larry on Fridays. Like I said, your Peace & Justice Center is humming with activity coming from activists ready to stand up for our community. It’s in the evenings when most organizations usually meet. Yours can too. Simply have a member of your organization who is also a member of the Peace & Justice Center contact us and we’ll see what we can schedule in.
Currently we have a book club meeting on the second Sunday of the month at 1 p.m. On the third Sunday of the month, we have a Zen group which meets from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The first Monday of the month Gather and Sing meets and sings, starting at 4:30 p.m. A second singing group, Good Trouble, meets on the second Monday at 3:30 p.m. and the third Monday at 5. p.m. These different times allow people the flexibility to fit singing into their schedules better. The third Tuesday of the month is reserved by the board of directors so they can meet, plan and move ahead. On the second Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Community Conversations meets to share discussions. The first, third and occasional fifth Thursday of the month is reserved for Indivisible from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is a time to plan for the ever-busy folks with Indivisible. Lots of people are using our center to meet and resist the growing fascism, and you can too. There are times available for member groups to use our center to plan for a better, more just and sustainable world.
Events are coming up. To find out about them, go to the eblast at pjcsoco.org, where you are now. Our eblast is praised by individuals and organizations alike, who depend on it for knowing when the next protests are being held, and for posting information about their own plans. Its just one of the ways your Peace & Justice Center is serving our community.
Information is strength. Organizing with others is greater strength. Find a group that reflects your desires, join it and make your wishes become reality. If no group represents what you want to see done, then create your own. Work with us and we can provide a meeting space. This is a time for activism to defend our democracy from demigods. Join others today so that we might live in a better world. One place to do this is your Peace & Justice Center.
