Sonoma Valley Youth and Broader Community Organize Peaceful Protest for Palestine
Friday, Mar. 8, 2024; 6 pm - 7:30 pm Front Grass at Sonoma City Hall Sonoma Valley, March 8th, 2024 – Sonoma Valley's youth activists are rallying for peace and justice in Palestine with a protest scheduled for March 8th. The event, organized by Sonoma Valley for Ceasefire (SVFC), aims to draw attention to the ongoing humanitarian crisis facing Palestinian children and families and the significance of Sonoma tax dollars supporting it. On March 8th, from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, concerned youth and community members including anti-Zionist Jews and Arab Americans will gather on the Front Grass of City Hall to demand a ceasefire and an end to the violence in Palestine. They also want the Sonoma City Council to urgently pass a ceasefire resolution. Despite the geographic distance, the organizers stress the importance of solidarity and action in addressing global injustices as well as taking responsibility for interconnected systems of injustice. "As youth in Sonoma Valley, we refuse to turn a blind eye to the suffering of our siblings in Palestine. Our peaceful protest is a call for compassion, justice, and solidarity with those affected by the violence. We will not be silent on the disproportionate and unjustifiable collective punishment on a population of mostly women and children,” said an 18-year-old Sonoma High student who prefers to remain nameless for their safety. The event seeks to amplify the voices of those impacted by the conflict and to advocate for meaningful change. Participants are encouraged to join in solidarity and show their support for peace in Palestine. "We invite all members of the community to join us in this important demonstration of solidarity and humanity," continued this young person. "Together, let us stand on the right side of history and work towards a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Palestine." Contact: Sonoma Valley for Ceasefire: [email protected] Vertical Divider
