Dear PJCSC-

Please give your support for Sonoma County to pass a resolution against antisemitism and all forms of hate speech - resolution text and endorsement form follow.

I am part of a group of Sonoma county residents who are concerned about rising antisemitism and hate speech in our community. To show widespread support for this simple and clear stand against hate, we are asking local groups working for social justice to express their support for a resolution condemning antisemitism and all forms of hate speech.

Please support this resolution. Hate speech and violence triggered by hate propaganda is on the rise nationally, and
in California, hate targeted against Jewish people is increasing at a rate greater than the obscenely high national average, with a 32% increase in antisemitic incidents in 2021. Regionally, there have been many reported antisemitic events across the Bay Area, including in Sonoma County. Many groups targeting the Jewish community have also been emboldened to target LBGTQIA+, AAPI and African American communities with hate. Unfortunately, one of the most virulent hate groups spreading antisemitic, LBGTQIA+ and other hate propaganda is located right here in Sonoma County - known as the “Goyim Defense League”.

Given this national, regional and Sonoma context, it is particularly important for the County to take a strong stand against antisemitism and all forms of hate speech. Last year, Marin County passed just such an ordinance. We are proud to have the support of the Sonoma County Commission on Human Rights, and overwhelming positive feedback from public comment during several meetings of the commission.

When hate is allowed to thrive against one minority group, it grows to target other groups. Please lend your support now to make a clear statement against hate.
